zitiert direkt Otis Reddings Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song). Die Markenzeichen des Stax-Sounds waren der grosse Raum (das Stax-Studio war ein alter Kinosaal) und die Orgeleinsatz-artigen Horn-Arrangements der Memphis-Horns, der Haus-Blaskappelle des Labels. Stax war ein wichtiger Einfluss für den Blue-Eyed-Soul und das Label gehörte neben Motown zu denen, die am erfolgreichsten Soul-Cossovers bei einem weissen Rockpublikum landen konnte.
