Der Song basiert auf der selben Akkordfolge C-E-F-Fm wie The Air That I Breathe von Albert Hammond, berühmt gemacht von den Hollies. Es geht aber um ein ganz anderes Thema: um eine Angebetete, die unerreichbar schön ist und um die Liebe, die in Hass umschlägt («you're so fucking special»), weil sie den Liebenden ignoriert. Der Song war nicht sofort erfolgreich, mauserte sich zunächst zur Slacker-Hymne und dann zu einem von Radioheads Erkennungssongs. Markant daran sind die Sabotage-Störakkorde der Gitarre vor dem Refrain. Sie halten die Melancholie des Songs auf ironischer Distanz und bewahren ihn davor, ins Kitschige zu kippen.
