Der Song geht auf den Barrelhouse Boogie Junker Blues von Champion Jack Dupree zurück (1941). Nur zwei Jahre später als The Fat Man
erschien eine weitere Variante des Songs: Lawdy Miss Clawdy von Lloyd Price. Fats Domino spielte bei dieser Nummer das Piano. Noch einmal zwei Jahre später kam Professor Longhair mit einer weiteren Version heraus: Tipitina.
