Eine surreale Sicht auf das Leben als Outlaw von Bob Dylan. Nicht der eloquenteste Song von ihm – er fühlt sich an, als wäre Dylan auf halben Weg zu einer langen surrealen Songs wie Desolation Row oder It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) stecken geblieben. Der Song geht nirgendwo hin, aber ist tatsächlich recht schräg: Zeilen wie «I wish I was on some Australian mountain range / I got no reason to be there, but I imagine it would be some kinda change» drücken Distanz zu seinen frühen Hobo Songs aus – als wäre dem Erzähler das Thema langweilig geworden.
Das Jessie James Thema kommt auch irritierend daher, wenn Dylan singt: «I might look like Robert Ford / But I feel just like a'Jesse James». Damit stellt er seine eigene Authentizität als Outlaw in Frage.
