Der «opening track» des Revolver Albums. Es war das erste Mal, dass ein Song von George Harrision diese prominente Funktion erhielt und das erste Mal, dass drei seiner Kompositionen es auf ein Beatles-Album schafften.
Der Song handelt von Georges Frust über das englische Steuersystem in der Zeit von Premier Harold Wilson, dass die hohen Einkommen progressiv besteuerte, so dass den Beatles nur wenig von ihrem finanziellen Erfolg blieb. Dieses Problem trieb sie am Ende ihrer Karriere in die Hände des Managers Allen Klein und in einen ihrer uanauflösbaren Konflikte, die zur Trennung des Quartetts führten.
Das Einzählen am Anfang nimmt das Einzählen auf dem ersten Beatles Album Please Please Me auf und kann so als ein Neuanfang gehört werden. Es ist hier allerdings kein natürliches Einzählen beim Einspielen des Backingtracks, sondern ein nachträglich hinzugefügtes «Gimmick», eine Produktionsidee also. Die verrauchte tiefe Stimme von – ja wem eigentlich? Darüber gab es Debatten. Auch darüber, wer für das zweite, schnellere Einzählen im Hintergrund verantwortlich war (ziemlich sicher George).
