Der Titel komme daher, dass Wilson zuerst unsicher war, ob er einen ähnlich guten Song schreiben könne. Seine Frau Marilyn beruhigte ihn mit den Worten: «Don't Worry, Baby». Der Titel war ursprünglich als Nachfolgehit für die Ronettes gedacht, wurde aber von Phil Spector abgelehnt, worauf die Beach Boys ihn selbst aufnahmen.
