Sign 'O' The Times ist das achte Studioalbum von Prince – veröffentlicht unter seinem Namen, nachdem er seine Begleitband Revolution aufgelöst hat. Das Album kam zu Stande, nachdem Prince mehrere Alben angefangen hat aufzunehmen, die dann liegen geblieben sind. Das kanonische Album beeindruckt durch seine Stilvielfalt. Es enthält Pop-Balladen (Slow Love), Soul (Adore), Gospel (The Cross), Rock (U Got the Look), Funk (It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night), Psychedelicpop (Starfish And Coffee), Electronica (It) und Funky- bzw. Poprap (Housequake). Es gibt auch Songs wie Play In The Sunshine, die wie Outtakes von anderen Alben klingen (in diesem Fall 1999).
Das Album kam 2020 als Super Deluxe Ausgabe auf den Markt. Auf 8 CDs ist das Album geremastert, Versionen von Songs (z.B. lange Studio-Jams), 40 Outtakes («Vault Tracks») und ein Live Konzert aus Utrecht enthalten. Die «Vault Tracks» zeigen die unerhörte Schaffenskraft von Prince in dieser Zeit. Sein Ausstoss toppt sogar noch denjenigen der Beatles im Jahr 1968 während der Produktion des Weissen Albums.
