Der Release zeigt die Reaktion der Beach Boys auf die Ereignisse von 1967, als die Rockmusik sich ästhetisch veränderte. Vor dieser Musik waren die Beach Boys eine Tour-Band, während Brian Wilson zuhause an neuen Sounds feilte. Mit dieser Produktionsstrategie mischte die Band bzw. Wilson kräftig mit bei der Entstehung der neuen Rock-Ästhetik. Wilsons psychische Labilität veranlasste die Band wieder dazu, gemeinsam an Songs zu arbeiten. Diese Tracks waren das Resultat. Sie gehören nicht gerade zu den stärksten im Katalog der Band.
